Zona, 2008

installed at Estación Tijuana as part of the 2008 California Biennial, curated by Lauri Firstenberg

Zona begins with a sign that designates a space in an art gallery where dogs would be welcome. The sculpture is the dogs that might be in this zone. However, the area has no distinct physical boundary. The sign changes location daily, so the space where the sculpture could exist changes accordingly. And those who can read the sign can occupy the space but they are not a part of the sculpture. A text at the front of the gallery will provide information about the daily location of the sign. The sign is hung at dog eye-level.
