produced for the exhibition Portas Abertas, Fórum Eugénio de Almeida, Évora, Portugal

Portas Abertas (Open Doors) is an international participatory artistic project organized by Fórum Eugénio de Almeida on the occasion of its opening in the former Palácio da Inquisição (Palace of the Inquisition), marking the start of the cultural and artistic activities to be presented in this new space in Évora, Portugal. Acknowledging the building’s history, Fugitive responds to the idea of visibility as power, and directly engages the fact that at the end of Portas Abertas all printed and digital files received for exhibition will be destroyed and deleted. Sampled from a photo of a Guantanamo Bay prisoner, Fugitive will be printed as a pigment color whose permanence is unknown, but realistically is less than a year in normal conditions. Fugitive’s duration will end with the conclusion of Portas Abertas; the work will never be shown again.
